Kansas came in 8-0 for the first time in 99 years, while Nebraska was in the midst of a 4-game losing streak, but the Huskers looked good early.
After forcing a 3-and-out, the Huskers blocked a KU punt and gave Joe Ganz good field position for his first drive as a starter. Ten plays and 46-yards later, Ganz ran in a 3-yard touchdown to give Nebraska a 7-nothing lead.
Kansas immediately answered though, when Todd Reesing found Kerry Meier for a 13-yard touchdown. The second-ranked scoring defense of the Jayhawks was exposed just minutes later though - when Marlon Lucky caught a short pass from Ganz and ran it 62 yards for the score. It was Lucky's 56th career reception breaking the Nebraska record for running backs and giving the Huskers a 14-7 lead.
Kansas tied it up just over a minute later when Brandon McAnderson capped a 6-play 50-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Then, after the Huskers offense stalled, the Jayhawks took their first lead of the game with one minute left in the first quarter. Reesing went over the top to Jake Sharp for a 26-yard score and 21-14 lead.
It was more Jayhawks in the second quarter as McAnderson took advantage of the worst run defense in the country -- scoring four minutes in - on a 9-yard carry.
Nebraska tried to stay close when Ganz hit Maurice Purify twice in three plays, for a total of 69 yards, the second a Husker score. But Kansas answered again. First - Reesing found Marcus Henry for a 35-21 lead. Then, McAnderson scored his third rushing touchdown of the first half and gave KU a 21 point lead. It got worse when a Ganz pass was deflected and picked off on the NU 19 yard line. Kansas quickly took advantage when Reesing hit Desmond Brisco and the Jayhawks made it 7 touchdowns on 7 straight possessions.
Nebraska tacked on a late Alex Henerey field goal but trailed 48-24 at the end of the first half.
Nebraska needed a spark to start the second half and got it when Ganz engineered another scoring drive, throwing a touchdown to Purify for the second time on the day. But Kansas scored the next four touchdowns as Reesing broke a KU record with his sixth passing score and McAnderson notched his fourth rushing score.
The 76 Kansas points are the most all-time against Nebraska in their 118 year history. Ganz hit Purify with just under 5 minutes to play for their third scoring connection of the day, and Ganz's fourth passing touchdown (5th overall)... He also threw 4 interceptions.
Kansas won by a final score of 76-39, remaining undefeated at 9-and-0. As for Nebraska - they are now 4-and-6, with just one Big 12 win.
Next week the Huskers host Kansas State.
