OKLAHOMA CITY—With a win over the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday morning at the Big 12 Softball Tournament, the Huskers advanced to the first semfinal game against the Red Raiders of Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon, with the winner advancing to Sunday's Big 12 Championship game.
In the bottom of the first inning, Nebraska got on the scoreboard as Crystal Carwile crushed the ball, going deep, scoring Darcy Rutherford and Meghan Mullin to get the Big Red off to a 3-0 lead over the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech answered in the bottom of the first inning with a Jennifer Corkin single, scoring Leah Legler, cutting the Husker lead to 2 runs, Huskers leading 3-1 at the end of the first inning.
The Huskers added to their three-run total in the top of the second inning when Haley Long singled to center field, scoring Crystal Carwile and Darcy Rutherford, making the score 5-1 in favor of Nebraska.
After two hit batters in the top of the fifth inning, Nebraska's Haley Long scored when Whitney Barrett was caught stealing second base, Huskers out in front 6-1. Nebraska went on to win the game.
With the victory, Nebraska now advances to Sunday's Big 12 Championship game, facing the winner of Texas and Texas A&M. The championship game will be played at 12 noon and can be seen on Fox Sports Net.
In the win, Nebraska's Molly Hill went a complete game, striking out 5.
The winner of Sunday's championship game gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.
