The Islanders of Grand Island finished the year in fitting fashion.
Grand Island, who came into the State Baseball Tournament as the #8 seed, also began the season with a record of 6-10 and ended a 40-year run of Omaha area teams winning the State Championship.
The Islanders went 14 and 4 to close the year, Millard West played 4 games in 24 hours, with each game, their season was on the line.
The WIldcats edged GI 7 to 5 in Game 1, but Grand Island was the victor, squeaking out a 1-run win in Game 2, winning 7 to 6.
