After bolting out to a 2-0 lead, Lincoln Pius X looked like it was about to go down as one of the best Class B teams in history. While Pius was in position to become the 3rd team to finish the season undefeated, Skutt began its charge. The Skyhawks chipped away at the Thunderbolts lead, scoring early in the 2nd half.
Skutt later added the tying goal with less than 3 minutes remaining. The two teams, who have squared off in each of the past 3 Class B Championships, played 2 scoreless overtime periods forcing a shootout.
Skutt and Pius traded scores in the shootout, forcing a sudden death scenario. Both teams netted goals in round six of the shootout. The following sequence saw Skutt take a 1-goal advantage, putting Pius in a must-score situation. Anthony Johnson's attempt hit the post and rolled out, giving Skutt a dramatic Championship victory.
Pius finishes the season 16-1.
