The ice, snow and heavy winds in western Nebraska have combined to knock out power to thousands of people and businesses.

Nebraska Public Power District says a 115-kilovolt line running through Gordon in northwest Nebraska failed late Wednesday, cutting power to Pine Ridge, S.D. Repairs have begun.

More than 2,650 Scottsbluff customers lost their electricity, and NPPD says more than 1,100 were still without power Thursday morning.

Travelers are being warned about the potentially hazardous conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the northwest corner of Nebraska. Winds with gusts up to 60 miles an hour are in the forecast, along with snowfall of up to 5 inches.
